About this deal

A madcap new novel from the one-of-a-kind author of The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden. Featuring one violent killer, two shrewd business brains and many crates of Moldovan red wine, Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All is an outrageously zany story with as many laughs as Jonasson’s multimillion-copy bestseller The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. And perhaps that was amplified by having met the same plot point in another book only a couple of weeks ago - an insufficiently entertaining con-artist character swindling innocent people and not regretting it, in Valeria Luiselli's The Story of My Teeth. As wildly funny and unexpected as The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared and The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden, this is a madcap, feel-good adventure about belief, the media - and the fact that it's never too late to start again.

Together they cook up an idea for a very unusual business that’s going to make them all a fortune – but then all of a sudden, and to everyone’s surprise, Anders finds Jesus . Even so it works on the same principle, a certain kind of "unusual" heroes, and a wildly improbable plot.L'idea finale che giustifica la copertina col Babbo Natale l'ho trovata carina, ma dopo quattrocento fastidiose pagine non mi ha dato comunque soddisfazione. I should have been warned sufficiently by the low Goodreads rating, but I thought this would be one of those unpopular opinion books. In writing this review, I don't really have any thoughts to share on the characters or the plot -- they were just kind of there, and I read about what they did, and then the book was done.

The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden was less successful in its attempts to be inventive, but I found it entertaining enough. Their constant scamming and Robin Hood-esque redistributions of wealth, may appear at first glance admirable, but their singular motivation always seems to be their own financial gain, leaving the reader pretty much disliking everyone in the whole book. This book has a very similar humor as was in The Hundred Year Old Man, but somehow the scale of it is much smaller. But then he realises that they have a lot in common, and so he embarks on a romantic relationship with her to complement their business relationship. And after spending most of his adult life in jail for it, he emerged at the age of fifty-six vowing to stop killing, drinking alcohol and taking pills.Anders's sudden interest in religion might be good for his soul, but it's not good for business, and the vicar and the receptionist have to find a new plan, quick. Devo dire che sono rimasta molto delusa da questo terzo romanzo di Jonas Jonasson, anche perché ho amato tantissimo i primi due. Mischievous yet big-hearted, filled with Jonas Jonasson's trenchant humor and delightful twists, Hitman Anders and the Meaning of It All is a delightful comic adventure that reminds us it's never to late to start over--and to discover what truly matters.

We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. What’s more, thug-as-born-again-Christian sounds like a premise with plenty of comic potential, at least on this side of the Atlantic. The characters are all so morally corrupt, that no matter how much good they try to do, it always left me with a bad taste in my mouth. When I first decided to read this book, I have to say I was quite intrigued about reading it, but by eventually completing it, I'm a little underwhelmed and very disapointed.Seriously, the plot just doesn't make any sense and the religious elements really started to get on my nerves. As a reader open to the explanation of their backgrounds, and wanting to laugh at the book I still kept wishing they would stop, even if I didn’t want them to get shot or arrested or any of the other things one sees pissed off Goodreads reviewers say about characters who annoyed them. Another excellent story from Jonas which finds you warming to a failed Priest a ruthless contract killer and a brothel receptionist.
