Catch up with Landscape Artist of the Year

Jim Moir is best known for his alter ego Vic Reeves and comedy partnership with Shooting Stars’ Bob Mortimer, but there’s another aspect to the funnyman. He’s a prolific artist and a devoted birdwatcher. In Painting Birds, Jim teams up with his wife Nancy to travel around the UK and share his two lifelong passions. Kominsky died in London on March 11, 2011, at the age of 95, predeceased by her husband on January 29, 2011, at the age of 90. Nancy Kominsky was the author of 12 books on painting and pastels along with the autobiography This Is How I Did It - A Self-portrait of Nancy Kominsky. The book was a 2010 prize winner in the Writer's Digest Annual Competition for memoirs. a UK television programme made by HTV West from 1974 to 1978 and presented to the ITV network in a day time slot - usually 12.30 or 3.30pm. The programme purported to teach the viewer to paint and the lessons consisted of Philadelphian artist, Nancy Kominsky painting a picture in twenty-five minutes. Kominsky's series Paint Along with Nancy comprised 52 half-hour programmes made by HTV West from 1974 to 1978, and transmitted on ITV network in the United Kingdom.

Jim: “When we were looking for the eagle it was touch and go on whether we’d see it or not. I don’t want to give anything away but it was pretty close!”The series is produced by Drum Studios, part of Omnicom Media Group, headed by Andy Holland. Danny Carvalho and Sadia Butt are the executive producers. Nancy: “I learned how the golden eagle shows off to woo the female. They fly higher and higher, drop a stone and, as it falls, go around until it gets near the bottom and then scoop it up. It’s just amazing.”

Her oil painting lessons were followed with enthusiasm by housewives, shift workers, and schoolchildren, many of whom would race home after school to switch on the television set to watch her demonstrate her unusual system of painting.Sky Arts have confirmed Painting Birds with Jim and Nancy Moir will return for a second six-part series, following the huge success of series one, which has had the biggest series launch on Sky Arts this year so far. Jim and Nancy are on the remote Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides on the look out for eagles. They also enjoy a catch up with Edwyn Collins.
