About this deal

Reviewing this light is rough because while it's not as good as it should be, it is the best of this style of work light that Makita has made to date. I raised a complaint with Makita, regarding their extended warranty which excluded work lights in the UK , but everywere else makita offer it.

DML816 - Flashlight LXT® - Makita UK

The Makita® 18V LXT® L.E.D. Flashlight (DML815) delivers bright illumination, versatility, and convenience. The high-luminance 4 L.E.D. flashlight provides 160 lumens. The fast-charging Makita® 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Battery delivers up to 23 hours of continuous illumination on a single charge (when using the 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion 5.0Ah battery, sold separately). I had the first iteration of this light, along with Dewalt's 20v work light and Kobalt's 24v work light. I gave the Makita and Dewalt away and kept the Kobalt 24v. That was probably 4 years ago now. The Kobalt is still the best version of this light by a long margin. I think Ridgid might have just came out with a pretty comparable light, but I don't have those batteries, so I don't intend to test it out. Product dimensions are stated with a battery / batteries, if they affect the overall dimensions of the product. The DML816 is based on the DML801 but features 7 pivot points rather than 6 and 18 LEDs rather than 12 giving it up to double the amount of light - 500 lumens of light vs 240. Mode on/off switch delivers either 500 lumens in high mode, 250 lumens in medium mode or 100 lumens in low mode It's much larger and longer than necessary. See photos comparing the Makita and Kobalt. It's quite tall for no apparent reason.

Makita ® Lighting Products provide bright and portable illumination that helps get the job done in low-light conditions. Both lights were the same distance away from the phones light metre app.(40cm) , they were both on par roughly but the yellow one which I have used a lot is brighter and better colour but the makita also does a fine job . TheMakita DML816 is an 18V cordless flashlight withextra bright LED's providing up to 500 lumens of light. Makita DML816 14.4V / 18V Li-ion LXT Flashlight – Batteries

Light intensity is very usable on high. Not has bright as the Kobalt, but more than bright enough. It also gets dimmer than the Kobalt, so that is nice when you want to preserve battery life and/or don't want to light up the whole world. For instance, when camping. Lampe d’appoint achetée pour m’accompagner sur mes chantiers. Cela fait 3 jours que je l’utilise toute la journée. The hook is endlessly more useful than the previous model. The hook is fiddly, but it works well. It mounts to the light between the handle and the light head, which allows the user to hang the light and then angle the head so that it still aims at your workpiece. The problem with the previous model is that the hook was attached to the light head, so when you hang the light, the weight of battery straightens the light out and negates any angle you may have set to the articulating head. CONTROL : 3-mode operation: delivers 500 lumens on High, 250 lumens on Medium, and 100 lumens on Low The middle brightness setting is redundant and forces you to interact with the terrible switch more than is enjoyable.Flashlight head folds up and down with 7 positive stops and rotates left to right for multiple lighting angles Works great as a shop light when I wrenching on my car. Also works fantastic in dark attics ( HVAC Installs). I had the previous version which worked great as well, but it unfortunately broke where the light assembly rotates. However, this one seems more robust, and the hook placement is significantly better. Extremely long runtimes - up to 17 hours in high mode, up to 34 hours in medium mode and up to 75 hours in low mode when used with a BL1860B 18V 6Ah battery brightness modes - delivers 500 lumens in high mode, 250 lumens in medium mode and 100 lumens in low mode for flexible lighting Light quality is soft and diffuse due to the layer of semi-transparent diffusion plastic. The light quality is quite nice, although it does not appear to be daylight balanced.
